Thai workers worried over unemployed, asking for higher wage, better welfare
BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - A latest poll conducted by Thailand's National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) showed that most Thai workers were worried over being unemployed, followed by high costs of living and insufficient income.
According to the NIDA poll, in which 1,696 workers across the country, consisting 672 males and 932 females, were surveyed marking the National Labour Day on May 1, most of the respondents, or 38.40 percent, expressed their worries over being laid off and unemployed, followed by high costs of living accounting for 20.93 per cent.
On what they wanted to ask from their employers, some 38 per cent of the respondents said a wage rise to the most appropriate level; while 37.2 per cent of them wanted an improvement of employees' welfare.
Meanwhile, top issues the surveyed workers wanted Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to do include solving economic problems covering unemployment and the high costs of living at 45.64 percent, followed by implementing policies promised during electoral campaigns at 24.44 per cent. (TNA)
