Thailand amends Pathogen and Animal Toxin Act

BANGKOK, April 4 (TNA) - Thailand, through the Ministry of Public Health, is amending a law on the control of pathogens and animal toxins to be in line with international standards and the International Biological and Toxin Weapon Convention. According to Deputy Public Health Minister Dr. Surawit Khonsomboon , Thailand's existing Pathogen and Animal Toxin Act controls only private agencies which produce, distribute, import and export animal pathogens and toxins. Dr. Surawit said that his ministry's Department of Medical Sciences has, therefore, been tasked with revising the law to comprehensively cover the control of public agencies’ operations, with proposals and recommendations from agencies concerned being taken into account during the ongoing amendment process.
