Thailand To Base Police Attaches At Its Kl Embassy

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, May 17 (Bernama) -- Thailand will appoint police attaches to be based at its Kuala Lumpur embassy to better coordinate cooperation between the forces' of both countries. The decision was taken by the country's ‘Forward Cabinet’ which deals with issues in southern Thailand. "As Malaysia shares a border with many provinces in southern Thailand which is currently facing unrest, we think having police attaches will help in solving problems and coordinate cooperation (between the two countries)," its committee member Lt Gen Paitoon Choochaiya told the media on Wednesday. The police attache and his deputy, he said, would help coordinate cooperation on police affairs including on intelligence work, combating transnational crime and other security related issues. Malaysia would be the fourth country after China, Myanmar and Cambodia where Thailand would post its police attaches, he said, after attending the committee's meeting which was chaired by Deputy Defence Minister Gen Udomdej Sitabutr. The Foreign Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police will nominate the candidates to its human resources department before submitting their names to the Foreign Ministry. -- BERNAMA
