Thailand celebrates World Milk Day
BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives will hold an event to mark the World Milk Day and promote milk consumption among the public.
The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) designates June 1 as the World Milk Day to raise awareness on the significance of milk, affordable, nutritious food.
Sorawit Thaneeto, สรวิศ ธานีโต acting director-general of the Livestock Development Department told a press conference that his department, Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand and Thai Dairy Industries Association and other agencies will organize the World Milk Day 2018 at the Dusit Zoo on Friday.
An awareness campaign will be launched to promote benefits of milk, which plays an important role in supplying essential nutrients for stages of life. New dairy products will be displayed at the event.
Currently, Thai people drink milk 18 litres per person per year, considered rather low, compared to those poeple in Japan, Europe and the US. Thailand urges people to drink milk two glasses a day, targeting to increase milk consumption to 25 litres per person per year in 2026.
Vinod Ahuja, FAO representative said that milk is nutritious food, especially for children.
Besides milk consumption, the agency also gives importance to dairy farming. Milk consumption is good for people’s health and also supports dairy farmers. (TNA)
