Thailand to destroy over 2,700 kg of narcotics

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - Thai authorities will destroy more than 2,700 kilograms of narcotics, from 1,023 cases, in the central Ayutthaya province later this week. The Thai Ministry of Public Health's Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced Monday that the burning of the 2,755 kilograms of various kinds of drugs, totally worth 6.9 million baht, will take place at the Bangpa-in Industrial Estate in Ayutthaya on June 29, the country's 41st official destruction of narcotics so far. FDA Deputy Secretary-General Pongpan Wongmanee told reporters that some 1.8 million pseudoephedrine-based cold tablets, seized or called from local pharmacies and clinics, will also be among narcotics to be destroyed next Friday. According to the FDA deputy chief, other drugs to be burned down this year include 1,900 kilograms of methamphetamine, 147 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine and 58 kilograms of heroin. The FDA deputy chief assured that the narcotics would be totally burned down, with a very high temperature, through an environmentally-friendly system. (TNA)
