Thailand enters rainy season

BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) – The Meteorological Department announces that Thailand has entered the rainy season, warning for more lightning strikes this year. Meteorological Department Director-General Wanchai Sakudomchai said that the rainy season started on May 26 and it will end in mid-October. However, rain will continue until December in the South, particularly the eastern coast. The department forecasts less and intermittent rain from mid-June to mid-July, which could contribute to inadequate water for the agricultural sector, especially in those areas outside the irrigation zones in the lower northern region and the northeastern region. However, it will not cause severe shortage of water. The average amount of rainwater this year is less than that of last year but it will be near the normal level. The weather department forecast 1-2 southwest monsoons in this rainy season. If it occurs in August and September, it will impact the Northeast. A monsoon from October to December will influence the southern region. It warns about potential for more frequent lighting strikes, compared to last year. (TNA)
