Thailand to host Int'l Conference in Medicine and Public Health 2013

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - The US-based Rockefeller Foundation's Asian Pacific Office and Bangkok-based Siriraj Hospital will co-host the International Conference in Medicine and Public Health (ICMPH) 2013 at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, from June 24-28, as part of national preparations for the Asian Community (AC), set to be formed by 2015. Clinical Professor Udom Kachinthorn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, and Pimpawadee Paholyothin, Associated Director of the Rockefeller Foundation's Asian Pacific Office, told a joint press conference in Bangkok on Thursday that the ICMPH 2013 will mainly discuss medical and healthcare issues in the lead up to the AC. According to the co-host, some 275 international experts will participate in the dual-language five-day conference, during which 60 sub-forums will be held in Thai and 24 others in English, including those on how to measure vitamin D in blood and snoring remedies, as well as a keynote speech by A.G.Ellis on ASEAN Medical Hub. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over a ceremony to inaugurate of ICMPH 2013 on June 25. During the five-day international conference, an exhibition will also be held to mark 90th anniversary of the official collaboration between the Rockefeller Foundation, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and the Thai Government. Since 1921, Thailand’s medical education has been reformed, while financial aids have been continually granted for the construction of medical buildings, basic physical check-ups and the promotion of people's healthy livings.
