Thailand-Myanmar expected to sign new deal

BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) - Thailand and neighbouring Myanmar are expected to conclude at least a new agreement on bilateral cooperation during Myanmar President Thein Sein's rescheduled visit to Bangkok from July 22-24. According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul earlier discussed the new bilateral cooperation with newly-appointed Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand Tin Win, covering new development projects in Myanmar, namely a special economic zone and a deep sea in Tavoy and related projects. Talks between the Thai government and the Myanmar President are also expected to include ways to assist more than 90 Thai detainees in Myanmar who were charged with illegal encroachment into the Myanmar territory. President Thein Sein was first scheduled to visit Thailand when Bangkok hosted the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 from May 31-June 1 but the trip was postponed. (TNA)
