Thailand not affected by temblor in Myanmar

LAMPANG, THAILAND, August 23 (TNA) - Thai areas, especially those in the upper parts of the country, have not been affected by a 3.3-magnitude earthquake which jolted Myanmar after midnight. When confirming that all people and areas have been safe from the mild quake in Myanmar, Prajon Pratkul, chief of Thailand's disaster prevention and mitigation office, region 10, in the northern Lampang province, told reporters that his office, with its jurisdiction covering four northern Thai provinces of Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lampun and Mae Hong Son, had been reported by the Thai Seismology Centre that the 3.3-magnitude temblor had its epicentre in Myanmar, located some 93 kilometres from Chiang Mai's Fang district. Prajon said although the Myanmar quake was close to Thailand's northern areas, local people did not feel the mild temblor, acknowledging that his office has launched rehearsals in all the four Thai provinces to prepared local people for coping with any, probably, natural disaster.
