Thailand to refer to Anglo-Siamese treaty to seek extradition of bomb suspect from Malaysia
BANGKOK, March 20 (TNA) - Although Thailand and Malaysia have not had any extradition treaty, Thai authorities are referring to the Anglo-Siamese Treaty 1909 to seek the extradition of an Iranian man suspected to have involved in a spate of three bomb blasts in Bangkok last month.
Wanchai Rujanawong, executive director for foreign litigation of the Office of the Attorney-General, insisted Tuesday that Thailand could refer to the 1909 Anglo-Siamese Treaty to seek the extradition from Kuala Lumpur of the Iranian suspect in the February 14 explosions, as neighbouring Malaysia used to be a colony of the United Kingdom.
Wanchai said that he has already sent almost all documents Malaysian prosecutors have demanded to back their consideration concerning Thailand's request for the extradition of Masoud Sedaghat Zadeh, alleged to have involved in the mid-February three bomb blasts on Sukumvit 71 Road in the capital, and that Thai interrogators are preparing the rest documents Malaysia has demanded.
Wanchai acknowledged that the Thai public prosecutors have closely followed up the process of the extradition request with their Malaysian counterparts and will be in Malaysia on March 25 and 26 to discuss the legal process concerning the matter. (TNA)
