Thailand to send information on drug case against "Na Kham Mwe" to Myanmar
BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung has ordered concerned authorities to provide the Myanmar police chief with information on drug case against Major General Na Kham Mwe, leader of the Klo Htoo Baw Karen Organisation (KKO) or the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA).
Chalerm Monday quoted Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, Secretary-General of Thailand's Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), as saying that the Myanmar police chief did not have an arrest warrant against Major General Na Kham Mwe; so, he has ordered the concerned authorities to send the Myanmar police chief the accounts of 25 drug traffickers who were earlier sentenced to life imprisonment for the possession of 920,000 methamphetamine pills and were associated with Major General Na Kham Mwe to show drug involvement by the DKBA chief.
According to the Thai deputy premier, Major General Na Kham Mwe is now at least in a difficult position, as he cannot enter Thailand and cannot produce narcotics to be smuggled to Thailand.
The Thai deputy premier said if the Myanmar police chief cooperated, the 25 wanted persons under Thailand's arrest warrants would be homeless, vowing that he would not bring a battle to Thailand and would not let the country be a slave of narcotics.
The deputy premier said that he will visit Chiang Rai province in the Thai North from May 24-26 to discuss tough measures with local police to block drug smugglers along the Thai border, and that on June 8, he will meet naval commanders at the Navy Auditorium in Bangkok to listen to their demands for support for comprehensive narcotic solutions, especially those concerning drug rehabilitation.
