Thailand steps up efforts against human trafficking

NAN, August 28 (TNA) - Nearly 60 agencies concerned in Thailand's northern Nan Province have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to combat human trafficking, as part of the country's efforts to stop the problem. Presided over by Nan Governor Pongsak Wangsamer, the signing of the deal on Tuesday was aimed at coordinating the 57 local agencies to work together in the same direction to protect the rights of vulnerable children and women, as well as those affected by domestic violence and victims of trafficking rings in the province, based on the National Child Protection Act. According to Sumet Saisoong, Head of Nan's social development and human security office, varied measures have been implemented to combat rising human trafficking in the province, with most of the victims subjected to prostitution, forced labor and beggars. The senior official called for those who spot any suspected human trafficking act to immediately call his ministry's hotline, 1300 Prachabodee Call Center, or contact relevant agencies, namely local police.
