Thailand targets to cut road fatalities

BANGKOK, Dec 13 (TNA) - The Ministry of Transport aims to cut road accidents and fatalities to remove Thailand from the top ten countries with highest road fatalities. Deputy Transport Minister Pailin Chuchottaworn said he ordered the Land Transport department to launch a strict campaign to cut the number of road accidents ahead of the New Year festival, when the large number of people will travel for holiday and return upcountry homes by public transports. After an international organisation ranked Thailand among the world’s top list countries with high road fatalities, the deputy minister said his ministry aimed to remove the country from the top ten list. Thailand has improved transportation system and road conditions and automotive technology. From now on, it needs to raise awareness among motorists for road safety. He said in other countries, it is normal that public transport drivers, who work until their retirement, never have an accident. The public relations campaign will help raise awareness among public transport drivers here to set the safety of passengers as the priority. (TNA)
