Thailand voted to be new rotating chair of G77

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha says that Thailand has been voted to be the new rotating chair of the Group of 77 (G77), set up to promote economic interests and enhance bargaining power of member economies on world stages. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who visited the United States during September 24-30 to attend the UN General Assembly 2015, told TNA of the good news before departing New York for home on Wednesday (local time). The prime minister praised Thailand Teams and Thai diplomats concerned who successfully negotiated for the Kingdom's selection as the new G77 chair since April 2015, noting that Thailand will be the G77 chair next year, succeeding South Africa's chairmanship According to the prime minister, Thailand will take the opportunity as the G77 chair to lead sustainable development among the developing member economies. Founded on June 15, 1964 by a joint declaration of the 77 founding member countries, issued at a United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) forum, the G77's member states have increased to 134 since November 2013.
