Thailand's caretaker government asked to ensure free and fair general election

BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) - \Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has asked the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) to convince the caretaker government to ensure that the next general election will be free and fair, saying if election conditions are promising, his Democrat Party will run in the next national poll. As the EC is scheduled to meet the Caretaker prime minister on April 30, Abhisit and his delegation met the five-member EC on Tuesday morning to propose his solutions to pending national problems. Abhisit told journalists after the meeting that he told the EC he is looking forward to a free and fair election and he proposed that the election agency issue some regulations which should help guarantee such the transparent election. Abhisit revealed that the EC and he view that, under present circumstances, it appears to be difficult to organize a successful election and they doubt if the next general election could lead to national solutions and the opening of the Thai House of Representatives. Abhisit also urged the caretaker prime minister to consider his ideas, instead of focusing only on speeding up the next general election. The Democrat Party leader is discussing political matters with concerned parties and plans to gather their opinions to work out proposed national solutions within this week. The Democrat Party leader insisted if other political parties accepted his party's proposed national solutions, his party would run in the next general election, calling for concerned parties not to reject his party's proposals too early, as the proposed ideas, the bottom line of which is national reform, have not yet been raised.
