Thailand's community-based ICT learning centers prepared for AEC

BANGKOK, August 16 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is developing community-based ICT learning centers, as part of national preparations for the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap told reporters of the policy Thursday, saying that such the ICT centers will further develop Thailand to become a society of wisdom and learning. Anudith revealed that his ministry plans to open a total of 1,880 community-based ICT learning centers nationwide, 879 of which have already been opened. Meanwhile, the ICT Ministry and Bangkok-based Srinakharinwirot University are jointly organizing activities to improve the efficiency of the ICT learning centers, including the evaluation of the centers and the implementation of 41 ICT learning centers in Bangkok and other three peripheral provinces as a pilot project, namely Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Nayok.
