Thailand's floods caused 2,000 newly patients each day

BANGKOK, September 22 (TNA) - The Public Health Ministry says the ongoing flooding situation in Thailand has caused newly 2,000 patients each day. Thai Public Health Minister Wittaya Buranasiri said on Saturday that there were 25,369 patients with flood-related illnesses nationwide, based on the ministry’s latest inspection from September 9-21. Wittaya noted that headache accounted for 50 per cent of the patient’s illnesses, followed by athlete’s foot and cold, accounting altogether for about 30 per cent. Also, among 5,000 people whose property was damaged by flooding, 111 were found to have severe stress. According to the minister, 16 Thai provinces are currently encountering floods, about half of which are in the central region. The minister warned what normally comes with floodwater are dirty and harmful substances; so, people should not swim in floodwater, as they would be risk of eye infections, and people with health problems, especially heart disease, should also avoid wading through floodwater alone.
