BANGKOK, February 18 (TNA) - Thailand's opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has left Bangkok for Myanmar for talks with Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Myanmar's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), on ways to promote national reconciliation and how the neighbouring country has developed democracy.
Speaking to journalists before his departure Saturday, Abhisit, who is a former Thai premier, said that his discussions with Suu Kyi had been arranged since he was prime minister.
Abhisit acknowledged that he would also exchange views with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on rapid changes in Myanmar and possible impacts on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as on ways to strengthen relations between Thailand and Myanmar and other ASEAN members. (TNA)
