Thailand's stateman safe after lung operation

BANGKOK, August 30 (TNA) - Doctors say Thailand's Privy Council President and Statesman General Prem Tinsulanonda has been safe after a lung operation. The doctors at Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok made an appointment for General Prem to receive the lung operation on August 29 and the surgery produced a satisfactory result, after finding inflammation in an old surgical wound in his lung during an earlier medical check-up. Major General Chumpol Piumsombun, Director of the Phramongkutklao Hospital, told a press conference on Friday that General Prem, who is also a former Thai premier, underwent a normal medical check-up on August 19 and doctors found the inflammation in the upper part of his right lung. Major General Chumpol noted that General Prem needs about a week for his post-surgical recovery. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and other members of the Royal Family sent flowers to General Prem to boost his morale and to wish him a quick recovery. (TNA)
