ISRAEL SIGNALS TURKEY APOLOGY
Israel's government partner and the country's foreign minister has said his party would not quit the coalition even if the government made a formal apology to Turkey for the killing of nine Turks on a Gaza-bound aid ship last year. Political analysts have said Avigdor Lieberman's remarks had signalled that Israel might agree on some sort of an apology, which the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, reportedly supports.

THREE SOLDIERS KILLED IN PKK AMBUSH
Three Turkish troops were killed on Saturday in southeast Turkey when they came under intense gunfire from PKK terrorists. Sergeants Sadik Gullu, Ali Ozturk and Erhan Gul were killed in the province of Mardin while returning from a dinner hosted in their honor.

KILICDAROGLU: WEAPONS CAN NOT SOLVE PROBLEM
The leader of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu, said Sunday that weapons could not solve a problem. Kilicdaroglu's comments came after four Turkish soldiers were killed in south-eastern provinces of Mardin and Hakkari recently. "As the main opposition political party, we are ready to extend all possible support so that we can prevent terror acts," Kilicdaroglu said.
OLYMPIC TORCH BURNS IN TRABZON
The 11th European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) kicked off in the north-eastern province of Trabzon on Sunday night. Speaking at the inauguration of the games, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that, at a time when Turkey was integrating with the world and adding strength to itself, they were proud of investments made in the sports field and the results achieved.

THREE TROOPS KILLED IN CLASH WITH TERRORISTS
Two major sergeants and a staff sergeant were killed in the southeastern province of Mardin on Saturday night in a gun fight with the PKK terrorists. The soldiers were returning to their command posts from a dinner hosted in their honor when they came under fire. Major Sergeant Erhan Gul was re-assigned to the central province of Tokat and his replacement Major Sergeant Sadik Gullu was set to take over Gul's post. Staff Sergeant Ali Ozturk was also re-assigned to the northwestern province of Balikesir and he was set to leave Mardin shortly.

DELAY EXPECTED IN TURKEY'S PREMIER SOCCER DIVISION LAUNCH
Soccer's governing body in Turkey is expected to make a decision to delay the launch of 2011-2012 season in the country's premier soccer division, Spor Toto Super League, over a match-fixing scandal. The Turkish Soccer Federation is likely to postpone the official launch of the league for August 26. Premier division games were planned to start on August 7. The federation's meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

CAPITAL OF RELIGIONS AND LANGUAGES MARDIN TO HOST 2 MILLION TOURISTS
Southeastern province of Mardin's first five star hotel "Erdoba Elegance" began serving the tourism sector. The hotel belongs to Sumer Holding. Speaking at the inauguration of the new hotel, a member of the executive board of Sumer Holding, Bulent Sumer, said that "the capital of religions and languages, Mardin, has become a shining star in tourism. While the total number of tourists visiting Mardin in 2001 was 17,500, this number went up to 875,000 in 2011. The goal for Mardin is to host two million tourists in 2015".

"Sports' universal language bring peoples together by crossing borders," Erdogan said. ISRAEL'S LIEBERMAN SAYS WON'T QUIT GOVT. OVER TURKEY APOLOGY
Israel's government partner and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said his party would not withdraw from the coalition if Israel made a formal apology for nine Turks it killed aboard a Gaza-bound aid ship back in May 2010. "Settling the difference between two governments serve in the interests of both countries. Even if we have disagreements we would stay with the coalition," Lieberman has said.

TURKISH GOVERNMENT TO REACH OUT TO OPPOSITION OVER NEW CONSTITUTION
Turkey's ruling AK Party government has decided to prepare "a statement of principles" to invite opposition parties to the table for the making of a new constitution. The government has reportedly abandoned the idea to come up with a full-fledged draft constitution to debate on and instead urge the opposition to draft it jointly to prevent criticisms it received back in 2007 when it proposed a draft constitution.

PUBLIC BANKS EXCEED SPEED LIMIT IN LOANS
Consumer loans provided by Turkish public banks increased 27 percent in the first half of 2011 when compared to the past year. Consumer loans provided by Turkish public banks went over 59 billion Turkish liras. As of July 15, 2011, consumer loans provided by private banks went up 23 percent when compared to the previous year.

IHLAS HOLDING ENTERS LOGISTICS AND CATERING SECTORS
Turkey's Ihlas Holding has bought 95 percent of the shares of Sifa Catering Company for 17.1 million Turkish liras (TL) and 95 percent of the shares of KPT Logistics Company for 11.4 million TL. With the new purchases, Ihlas Holding has entered the logistics and catering sectors.

EUROPEAN YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES START IN NORTHERN TURKEY
Turkey's Black Sea port city of Trabzon is hosting the 2011 European Youth Olympic Festival which kicked off on Sunday. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the formal inauguration of the games in a ceremony on Sunday. Thousands of young athletes from all over Europe gathered in the summer edition of the European Youth Olympic Games. "I am greatly honored to hoist the olympic banner for the first time in Turkey," Erdogan said.

CONSUMER LOANS IN TURKEY UP 21.4 PERCENT IN FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2011 
Consumer loans in Turkey soared by 21.4 percent in the first half of 2011 over the same period a year earlier. Loans and credit card payments totalled some 200.6 billion Turkish liras in this period.

POLICE OFFICERS TAKE PHOTO OF CARS INVOLVED IN PARKING VIOLATIONS
Turkish police officers take photo of cars involved in parking violations. Accordingly, the drivers of such cars can not claim that they were not involved in parking violation. With the implementation of the photo system, the number of cars towed due to parking violations in Istanbul dropped to 171,000 in 2007 from 200,000 the previous year.

SHOPPING MALLS SMILE WITH ARAB TOURISTS
Istanbul shop owners are happy with Arab tourists during the three summer months, a period in which many Istanbulites are out of the province as schools are closed. Hundreds of Arab tourists have arrived in Istanbul to spend holidays and do shopping especially after visa liberalization and good relations between their countries and Turkey. Affordable prices have made Istanbul the center of attraction for Arab tourists.

OLYMPIC YOUTH FLAME IN TRABZON
A spectacular opening ceremony was held for the launch of the 2011 European Youth Olympic Festival, hosted by Turkey's Balck Sea port city of Trabzon. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined in the ceremony as well along with nearly 30,000 spectators.

TURKISH PREMIER SET TO VISIT AZERBAIJAN
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a formal visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday. Erdogan will meet Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in his trip, his second visit abroad after a landslide election victory in June.
