DOZENS UNDER CUSTODY IN HUGE MATCH-FIXING PROBE IN TURKEY
Turkish police on Sunday detained 46 people, including Aziz Yildirim, the president of Turkey's premier division champions Fenerbahce. Police was investigating Fenerbahce's games against Eskisehirspor and Sivasspor, which both had a crucial part on the way leading to Fenerbahce league title. Fenerbahce recent transfer, Emmanuel Emenike from Karabukspor, was also among the detainees.

SILVER GIRLS
Turkey's national women's basketball team claimed the second spot in the European Women's Basketball Championships after a 59-42 loss against their Russian contenders. The title gave the Turkish team the ticket to play in the qualification round for the 2012 Olympic Games. Turkish player Nevirye Yilmaz was selected for the top five players of the tournament.

After an investigation of one year, Turkish police have reached evidence pointing out to match-fixing in the football world. 49 people, including President of Fenerbahce club Aziz Yildirim, were taken into police custody on Sunday. Sources said that there were videos showing the match-fixing.

Turkey was shaken with allegations of match-fixing in the football world. 50 individuals, including President of Fenerbahce club Aziz Yildirim, were taken into police custody in 15 different provinces on Sunday under allegations of match-fixing.

TURKEY FOOTBALL UNDER POLICE PROBE
Turkish football was shaken by a police investigation into match-fixing allegations on Sunday that included the arrests of senior figures such as Turkish premier division champions Fenerbahce's president, Aziz Yildirim, as well as their vice-president, and the team's two recently-transferred players. An Istanbul prosecutor is probing three games Fenerbahce played, those that were against Karabukspor, Sivasspor and Eskisehirspor. Yildirim might face an imprisonment sentence of 67.5 years and Fenerbahce might drop to the second division. 

TURKISH LAWMKERS SET TO ELECT HEAD OF PARLIAMENT
Newly-elected lawmakers in June 12 general elections were expected to elect their new parliament speaker on Monday. Cemil Cicek and Zelkif Kazdal from the election-triumphant Justice and Development (AK) Party, and Tunca Toskay from the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will be running for the parliament speaker.

EARTHQUAKE IN FOOTBALL
More than 50 people were taken into police custody on allegations of match-fixing on Sunday. Among the detainees is the President of Fenerbahce club Aziz Yildirim. Security forces conducted separate operations in 15 different locations and made searches in the headquarters of Trabzonspor, Besiktas, Eskisehirspor and Sivasspor.

QADHAFI MUST LEAVE, SAYS DAVUTOGLU
After cutting off all relations with the Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, Turkish officials visited Benghazi on Sunday. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey would extend 300 million USD of financial assistance to the Libyan national administration. "Libyan people's demand for reforms must be met. Qadhafi should leave Libya," Davutoglu said.

An Istanbul prosecutor has launched an investigation into match-fixing allegations during 2010-2011 season in Turkey's premier football division, Spor Toto Super League. Fifty people, including president of the league champions Fenerbahce, Aziz Yildirim, as well as the team's other senior officials were detained on Sunday. Fenerbahce might be stripped off their title, and their 100 million USD award might be re-claimed if allegation were true. The team might also drop to a lower division.

TURKEY'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WINS SILVER IN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Turkey's national women's basketball team won the silver medal in the EuroBasket Women 2011 in the final game in Poland against their Russian rivals, losing the match 42-59. The women's team showed their best ever performance in an international event. The silver brought Turkey also the ticket to play in qualification rounds for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Justice and Development (AK) Party's deputy from Ankara, Cemil Cicek, is expected to be elected the new Speaker of Parliament on Monday. Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) deputy from Antalya Tunca Toskay is also a candidate for the position of Speaker of Parliament. Deputies of the Republican People's Party (CHP) will not be able to vote for the Speaker of Parliament as they did not yet take oath.

Turkey witnessed the biggest match-fixing operation in its history on Sunday. Around 50 executives, football players and managers, including Fenerbahce President Aziz Yildirim, were taken into police custody on Sunday under allegations of match-fixing. If the allegations of match-fixing and corruption are proved, Fenerbahce may be relegated to the Bank Asya First League.

OMAR MUKHTAR MESSAGE IN BENGHAZI
After cutting off all relations with the Qadhafi regime, Turkey expressed its open support to the uprising in Libya for freedom. Having arrived in Libyan city of Benghazi on Sunday, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the Libyan people's demand for reforms must be met. "Qadhafi must leave Libya. This (Libyan) people represented by Omar Mukhtar will show to the world what human dignity means," Davutoglu said.
