TRA holds telecoms law, regulation workshop

Manama, Sep. 24 (BNA): The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held a two-day workshop for it staff members at its headquarters in Seef area on current regulatory issues in the telecommunications industry, which was conducted by Ian Walden – a Professor of Information and Communications Law from the Center of Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London and is Of Counsel to Baker and McKenzie. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize TRA staff with recent regulatory developments, the economics in telecommunications regulation, competition law enforcement, building domestic and international networks, privacy an data protection, and issues related to consumer protection. “Workshops such as these are essential to our mission here at the TRA, as they provide us with valuable insights,” said TRA’s Deputy General Director, Shaikh Nasser bin Mohamed Al Khalifa. He continued, “Keeping informed of best international practices in the legal telecoms field and knowing how our counterparts across the globe are dealing with issues related to telecoms regulation eases navigating through these issues ourselves.”
