'Traditional' Electric Trishaw Latest Tourist Attraction In Malaysia's Terengganu

KUALA NERUS (Terengganu, Malaysia), July 12 (Bernama) – A new electric trishaw service – albeit retaining its traditional features – will be introduced in Terengganu this September at three tourist destinations. Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the trishaws, which cost RM8,000 (US$1 = RM4.30) to RM10,000 would operate at Syahbandar, Kampung Cina and Pulau Warisan. "As a start, four of these trishaws have been handed over to a company to operate, and they will be handled by youths. "The price for the tickets will be around RM15 to RM20 depending on the travel distance and (other) current situations," he said when met by reporters after trying out the new trishaw himself at the State Tourism Department's Hari Raya gathering here Tuesday. Meanwhile, in another development, Tenaga Nasional Berhad general manager Mohd Rashdi Ab Hamid when met at a TNB Aidilfitri event in Kampung Raja, Besut, said the Terengganu State Government was its best customer in the state, following its commitment to pay utility bills on time, and for successfully reducing its arrears. He added that consumers from the trade and industry sector were identified as the slowest bill payers, and TNB had established a special team to monitor the situation. -- BERNAMA
