Training on skills to survive sabotages held in Thai deep South
BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA) - A training on skills to survive sabotages was organized by police for local people and business operators in the Thai deep South on Friday.
The training was held in Yala Province, in which people and over 200 representatives of chambers of commerce, travel agents and hotels in Thailand's insurgency-plagued southern border region participated, also aimed at preventing violent attacks.
Meanwhile, violent incidents have continued in the Thai far South, including a latest one this morning when a paramilitary ranger was injured by shrapnel, as his group was attacked with a bombing and gunshots during their railway patrol in Narathiwat Province.
Hours earlier, five suspected insurgents, believed to be members of an insurgent group led by Hubaideelah Romuelee, were killed in a shooting upon a raid by local police in Yala Province Thursday evening. Assistant National Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Peera Poompichet told journalists that police are hunting for nine other suspected insurgents who have escaped from the raid in Baan Talo Sato in Sa Ay locality of Krong Pinang District, acknowledging that the men, including Sakueree Japakeeya who has been wanted with seven arrest warrants, were heavily armed and were gathering in the village to prepare for fresh violent attacks on local government offices.
In a related development, Thai Deputy Public Health Minister Surawit Khonsomboon visited four injured victims of a car bombing attack at the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel in Hat Yai of Songkhla Province on March 31. The victims have been hospitalized for burns and all are now safe. (TNA)
