Turkey evacuates first group of citizens from Libya
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 20.02.2011 - Turkey evacuated on Saturday the first group of its citizens from Libya due to ongoing turmoil in that country.
A Turkish Airlines (THY) plane carrying 90 Turks from Banghazi, Libya landed at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport late on Saturday. Then, a plane from Tripoli landed.
"Protestors attacked our camp area last night, we hardly saved ourselves," Osman Horoz, who was working in a construction company in Banghazi, told AA correspondent.
Horoz said protestors were mainly attacking on foreigners, not particularly on Turks.
Moreover, Hakan Terlik, who came from Tripoli, said the situation in Banghazi was more grave than that in Tripoli.
"There were no attacks or clashes in Tripoli," Terlik said.
Early on Sunday, THY sent another plane to Banghazi upon a demand from Turkey's Disaster & Emergency Situation Management and Foreign Ministry.
The plane took TRT and Anadolu Agency (AA) reporters to Libya.
Turkey plans to send two more planes later on Sunday to Banghazi to evacuate more citizens.
