Turkey to exert efforts for security in Somalia, ambassador says

MOGADISHU (A.A) - November 4, 2011 - Turkish ambassador to Somalia has said that Turkey would exert every sort of efforts for restoration of security in Somalia. Ambassador Cemalettin Kani Torun spoke to AA correspondent in his first interview after presenting credentials to Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. Regarding civil war in Somalia, Torun said security must be restored to attract investments to Somalia. "Turkey will do its utmost on the matter. We will conduct every kind of diplomatic means," he said. After Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a visit to Somalia in August, Turkey launched an aid campaign to the region, he said. Torun said a part of aid collected in Turkey for Somalia would be used for infrastructure. "Investments are needed for hospital, road, potable water, and electricity. If there is no infrastructure in a country, it cannot be developed," he said.
