Turkey hosts 116.7 percent more tourists
ANKARA (A.A) - 05.03.2011 - The number of tourists, who visited Turkey, increased 116.7 percent in 2010 when compared to 2002.
A total of 13.2 million tourists visited Turkey in 2002, and this figure increased to 28.6 million in 2010, stated Turkish Culture & Tourism Ministry on Saturday.
The ministry noted that Turkey rose 10 ranks in world tourism in the past eight years, adding that Turkey took place in top ten in world tourism.
Turkey, which was on the 17th rank in world tourism in 2002, rose to 7th rank in 2009. The number of tourists visiting Turkey was 13.2 million in 2002, and it rose 116.7 percent to 28.6 million in 2010.
Turkey, which was on the 12th rank in the aspect of tourism revenue in 2002, increased to the 9th place in 2009 despite the global economic crisis.
Tourism revenue of Turkey was 11.9 billion USD in 2002, and it increased 76.5 percent to 20.8 billion USD in 2010.
