ROCKING CHAIR
Turkish Parliament's Human Rights Inspection Committee has not brought luck to any of the lawmakers who became the chairmen of the committee since it was set up in 1990. The recent chairman of the committee, Zafer Uskul from the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party has not been nominated a candidate for lawmaker for another term, just as his six predecessors.
THREE GOLD MEDALS FROM AYLIN
Following Turkish woman weightlifter Nurcan Taylan, another woman weightlifter Aylin Tasdelen won three gold medals in 53 kg in the ongoing European Weightlifting Championships in Kazan, Tatarstan. Aysegul Coban of Turkey, competing in the same kilogram, won a bronze medal. Bunyamin Sezer of Turkey won two gold and one bronze medals in 62 kg, whereas Hursit Atak also became silver and bronze medalist in the same kilogram.
AUTOMOBILE FROM BAMBOO TO BE MANUFACTURED IN TURKEY
Swiss Rinspeed company is seeking an investor in Turkey for its "Bamboo" model car, which is produced from bamboo tree. The vehicle designed as a special model by pop singer Jamez Rizzi to remind St. Tropez coasts of 1970s, will be sold at 10,000 Euro in Europe.

REFORM NEEDED IN CHP
Regarding news stories which said that there was a radical change in the list of candidate MPs of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) for the upcoming general elections scheduled to be held on June 12, CHP chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that reform was needed in the party. "Youth should join the party. 29 is the average age of Turkey. The party should be a new one," he said.

Police waged simultaneous operations in 45 addresses in Kucukcekmece, Basaksehir and some other towns in Istanbul on Tuesday. Police detained 42 people in operations. It was claimed that al-Qaeda's Turkey head was also among detainees.

POLICE RAID SUSPECTED AL-QAEDA CELLS IN ISTANBUL
Police in Istanbul raided on Tuesday fifty houses in an operation against a suspected al-Qaeda network, arresting 42 people. Al-Qaeda's alleged leader in Turkey Halis Bayancuk was among those who were captured. Police also impounded weapons and several documents.
ERDOGAN ADDRESSES TURKS IN FRANCE
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday addressed Turks living in France as part of his to the country. The gathering of thousands of Turks at a sports hall in Strasbourg was almost the first election rally for Erdogan after his Justice and Development (AK) Party announced its candidates for June 12 general elections. "We are not chasing a role in the the Middle East or in Northern Africa. Unlike certain countries, we are not after war bounty," Erdogan said in an apparent reference to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
