Turkey's top military board meeting is set to start on Monday with a debate over the fate of fourteen generals who expect promotion but are also under detention for their suspected involvement in an alleged coup plot. Contrary to all expectations, the government will not seek their swift retirement but to frozen their promotion chances until after they are tried by a court a law.
EXILED KURDISH INTELLECTUAL HOPEFUL ON DEMOCRATIC INITIATIVE
Kemal Burkay, an exiled Kurdish intellectual who returned to Turkey 31 years after he fled the country, said his hopes were high that the government would add a new momentum to its drive to expand rights and freedoms. Burkay said some Kurds had failed to support the government, and they even had been disturbed by the Kurdish-broadcasting state-run TV channel TRT 6. "But we need to encourage the government," he said.

Syrian troops stormed into Hama and killed 95 people. A total of 121 Syrian people were killed in military operations across the country. Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement against Bashar al-Asad government and asked the government to end violence. The statement said that such operations could not bring solution and Syrian government must comprehend this fact.
CRIME SECTOR'S TURNOVER ABOUT 8 BLN TL
Turkey's crime-generated economy posted an estimated illegal turnover of 8 billion Turkish lira (TL) last year. According to a research on crime economy in Turkey in 2010, net profit gained through illegal businesses became 3.2 billion TL. Smuggling, forgery, robbery and prostitution are the top fields where billions of TL circulate illegally. The research said that it is estimated that the total number of unregistered sex workers stands at between 100,000 and 150,000.

The Turkish government reportedly agreed with Gen. Necdet Ozel, acting chief of the military staff, over the appointment of Gen. Hayri Kivrikoglu as the commander of the land forces. However, Gen. Arslan Guner, deputy chief of the military staff, who is senior than Gen. Kivrikoglu, might react to the appointment. The same holds true for the appointment of the new head of the Turkish Gendarmerie Forces.
