Turkish commandos searching for three people who had been kidnapped in southeastern Diyarbakir province's Silvan town were ambushed as they were returning to their base yesterday afternoon. 13 soldiers were killed in the clash, while 7 soldiers were wounded. Two of the wounded are in critical condition.
HIGH-LEVEL ALARM
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after holding talks with the Chief of General Staff and the head of the National Intelligence Organization, has sent two force commanders and two ministers to Diyarbakir. Delivering a statement afterwards, Erdogan said, "terrorism would be beaten without making any concessions from brotherhood".
IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO SAY NO TO TURKEY
Four French senators, two of whom are from French President Nicolas Sarkozy's party, visited Ankara, Istanbul and Bursa, and later prepared a report criticizing their country's Turkey policy harshly. The senators, who work at the French Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, shared their impressions about Turkey in a 62-page report. The report said France might regret some of its politicians' current statements in the future. "French people should be convinced that closing Europe's doors to Turkey would be a shame for us," the report also said.

Arms delayed hopes for peace one more time as Turkey was about to settle Peace & Democracy Party's (BDP) boycott crisis and the parliament was close more than ever to solving the Kurdish issue through a new constitution. Terrorists attacked with hand grenades on a team of Turkish soldiers who were on an operation in Diyarbakir's Silvan town to save the three recently-kidnapped people. Thirteen soldiers died in the fire that erupted in the woods.

Turkish capital of Ankara took action after the death of 13 soldiers in Diyarbakir. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who heard the news on his way to Esenboga Airport, changed his program and returned to the prime ministry. Meanwhile, General Staff Chief Gen. Isik Kosaner, Gendarmerie Forces head Gen. Necdet Ozel, Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin and National Intelligence Organization head Hakan Fidan gathered at the prime ministry building as well. After the meeting, Gendarmerie Forces Commander Ozel and Land Forces Commander Erdal Ceylanoglu proceeded to Diyarbakir to hold talks. Deputy Premier Bekir Bozdag and Interior Minister Sahin are also expected to go to the southeastern city today.
