LIST DIVIDES CHP
The bigwigs, who were excluded from list of candidate lawmakers with an operation of Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, have divided the party. Discussions began before June 12 general elections. Exclusion of some CHP members close to former secretary general Onder Sav and former chairman Deniz Baykal, has caused a chaos in the party. Canan Aritman, who was out of the candidate MP list, said, "CHP's target is not to become the ruling party." 

HERE IS MUS, NOT PAKISTAN
There was snowfall in many places around Turkey in April. Traffic almost stopped on Bolu Mountain due to snowfall, and snow closed village roads to traffic. Traffic was paralyzed in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions, whereas flights were delayed. Avalanche occurred on Rize-Erzurum highway. River Karasu overflowed due to torrential rains in the eastern province of Mus, which reminded Pakistan that was hit by a flood disaster. People who were stranded in their houses in Mus were rescued by boats.

POLICE OPERATION ON AL-QAEDA IN TURKEY
Police special forces staged simultaneous raids against 30 houses, believed to be al-Qaeda cells, in Istanbul, detaining 40 people including Halis Bayancuk, the group's alleged leader in Turkey. Bayancuk is the son of Haci Bayancuk, one of the senior operatives of the Hezbollah in Turkey and the alleged mastermind of the assassination of Gaffar Okkan, a senior police chief.

TURKISH PREMIER LASHES OUT AT FRENCH LEADER
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday addressed Turks living in Strasbourg, France, at a rally in a T-Rhenus Sports Hall. In an apparent appeal to the French president, Erdogan directed harsh criticisms against France, saying that Turkey's approach to Libya was not motivated by self-interest. "We are not chasing a role in Libya or in Northern Africa. Unlike certain countries, we are not after war bounty," Erdogan said.

11 FLIGHTS TO BANGKOK
Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) increased the number of its flights to Bangkok, Thailand to 11 from seven. THY's Thailand director Mustafa Kerrar Yuksel said, "we increased the number of our flights to 11 in January 2011 due to a great demand." Yuksel said that the airlines mainly carried passengers from Scandinavian countries to Thailand. 

PRESIDENT GUL EULOGIZES ASELSAN
President Abdullah Gul paid a visit to Aselsan, a Turkish corporation which produces tactical military radios and defense electronic systems for the Turkish Army. Gul said that he was impressed by devices produced by Aselsan. Gul said Aselsan designed and produced highly sophisticated devices and achieved a great success in this area.
