Turkish Armenians Patriarchate says bright future cannot be overshadowed by those sorrowful incidents

ISTANBUL (A.A) - The Patriarchate of Turkish Armenians said on Tuesday that a bright future could not be overshadowed by the sorrowful incidents of the past. The patriarchate released a statement about a French resolution criminalizing the denial of Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915. "We cannot let a 1,600-year-old history and a bright future ahead of us be overshadowed by those sorrowful incidents," the patriarchate said. The patriarchate said roots of Turkish and Armenian people had been intermingled, and any negative intervention could harm process between the two countries. In its statement, the patriarchate claimed that some sorrowful incidents had occurred during the Ottoman era, but bilateral relations were going back to the fifth century. "There are such a rich background since that day that we cannot let a 1,600-year-old history and a bright future ahead of us be overshadowed by those sorrowful incidents. This will be a big mistake and injustice to Turkish and Armenian people's friendship and the children of this country do not deserve it," the statement said.  The patriarchate said what had happened had hurt everybody, and noted that this country belonged to everybody who lived within its territories. "We have to protect our country altogether, and pay attention not to hurt it, however the international community is not respecting to this reality," the patriarchate said. The patriarchate said neighbors should end this row, not some others. A French parliamentary commission adopted the mentioned resolution on December 7. The resolution will be voted at the general assembly on December 22. It envisages "one-year prison term and 45,000 Euro fine for those who deny genocide recognized by French laws." The French Parliament ratified a resolution saying that "France recognizes the Armenian genocide of 1915" on January 29, 2011.
