Turkish Culture Night held in New York

NEW YORK (A.A) - A "Turkish Culture Night" was held in Brooklyn district of the U.S. city of New York on Thursday.
A Turkish flag was hoisted at the Brooklyn Municipality and Turkish restaurants from Brooklyn and Manhattan served samples from Turkish cuisine at their stands.
The "Turkish Culture Night" was attended by Brooklyn Mayor Marty Markowitz, Turkey's Permanent Representative at the United Nations Ertugrul Apakan, Turkish Consul General in New York Mehmet Samsar and other dignitaries.
Prior to his speech, Mayor Markowitz said "Fenerbahce was the champion and I am a Fenerbahce fan".
Consul General Samsar presented a Fenerbahce jersey to Mayor Markowitz, one on which the mayor's name was printed.
Turkey is an ally and the Turkish people are our friends. Brooklyn has the largest Turkish population in the United States, Markowitz said.
Touching on the political agenda, Markowitz said that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's stance on the leaders of Egypt, Libya and Syria was correct.
Erdogan proved his great leadership by expressing that equality, justice and democracy should be the only way that all countries of the world get managed with and not just several of them, Markowitz said.
Wearing a t-shirt with the name "Brooklyn" printed, Consul General Samsar thanked the Municipality of Brooklyn for their interest in the Turkish society.
Folk dancers from Turkey's Dokuz Eylul University performed as part of the "Turkish Culture Night".
