TURKISH PREMIER CITES SYSTEMATIC CAMPAIGN TO HOLD TURKEY'S REFORM DRIVE BACK
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected what he described as "a systematic campaign to besmirch Turkey" through unsubstantiated discussions over freedom of press in the country. Speaking at "the Leaders of Change Summit" in Istanbul, Erdogan said "a veil of shadow is tried to be cast over Turkey's transition and reform movement."

TURKISH SINGER STILL IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER ARMED ATTACK
Turkey's most popular singer Ibrahim Tatlises was in critical condition, his doctors said, after he was shot in the head by unidentified assailants late on Sunday. Tatlises was kept sedated at ICU at Istanbul's Acibadem Hospital. Istanbul governor said police forensic teams recovered at the scene of the attack eleven empty shells of bullets believed to be fired from an automatic rifle.

NO TO ANY NATO INTERVENTION IN LIBYA
Foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan convened in Paris on Monday and assessed possible intervention and flight ban on Libya. 
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the same hours in Ankara, relayed a clear message and said, "We consider any NATO intervention in Libya extremely useless and furthermore dangerous."

DID HIS PARTNER SHOOT HIM?
Famous folk singer Ibrahim Tatlises, who was shot in the head early on Monday in Istanbul, is still in critical condition.
There is paralysis on the left side of Tatlises. His relatives claimed that the attack was related to his construction works in north of Iraq.
Rusdi Said Kadir, Iraqi partner of Tatlises said he could not comprehend the suspicion about him and noted, "he is my brother. I will spend my wealth for him to recover."

HE MAY BE PARALYZED FOR LIFE
Renowned Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises was shot in his head late Sunday. Tatlises went through a surgery in Istanbul and is being kept in intensive care. His doctors said that Tatlises was in a critical condition and that, even if he recovered, he could be paralyzed for life.

LEADERS WHO DO NOT CHANGE COULD BECOME CRUEL, ERDOGAN SAYS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that any leader who does not pay attention to demands for change will sooner or later face failure and defeat. Speaking at the "Leaders of Change Summit" in Istanbul on Monday, Erdogan said that the leaders who do not change could become cruel.

LEADER DEAF TO CHANGE WILL BE DEFEATED
Addressing the opening of Leaders of Change Summit 2011, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "leaders should read the changes in the society well."  In reply to statements criticizing freedom of press in Turkey, Erdogan said, "those that could not be written, spoken and discussed before started to be on the agenda with the bold steps we have taken."

WHY DID THEY SHOOT HIM?
Famous folk singer Ibrahim Tatlises was shot in the head. Tatlises went through operation for three times in Istanbul's Acibadem Hospital. He was kept sedated for 24 hours.
Police, investigating the attack on Tatlises, focuses on the allegations that Tatlises borrowed a high amount from an organized crime organization for a giant construction project in north of Iraq. However, things did not go on as he expected and Tatlises went to the brink of bankruptcy. He fell out with his partner Rusdi Said. Money lenders started to corner him to pay the debt and that organization wanted to kill him.

OPPOSITION LEADER SENDS LETTER TO PREMIER, ASKS FOR PROBE INTO CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
Leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Kemal Kilicdaroglu on Monday sent a letter to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan asking the premier to launch an investigation into corruption allegations in the Metropolitan Municipality of the central province of Kayseri. Kilicdaroglu also sent a ledger book belonging to an alleged suspect which he said included bribe accounts.

TURKISH FM ADDRESSES "LEADERS OF CHANGE SUMMIT"
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu delivered a speech on Monday at "the Leaders of Change Summit" in Istanbul. "We would like to see that borders in the Balkans and the Middle East are removed. We want the peoples of these regions to live together as they did in the past," Davutoglu said. He described change in the Middle East as "the return of history to its natural course."

NO PRISON SENTENCE FOR KURDISH
Political candidates could conduct election propaganda in the Kurdish language in preparation for the elections of June 12 in Turkey. In the past, those making propaganda in Kurdish language were punished with prison sentences.

VAN SHAKEN BY TWO EARTHQUAKES
Saray and Ozalp towns of eastern province of Van were shaken by earthquakes on Monday evening. An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shook Saray at 20.57 hours while another earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale shook Ozalp at 21.00 hours. There were no reports of casualties or damages due to the earthquakes.

DON'T RESIST CHANGE
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the opening of Leaders of Change Summit in Istanbul and commented on the developments in the Middle East and north of Iraq. Erdogan said, "leader that falls behind his people will become cruel. Every leader that is deaf to the demands of the society will be defeated sooner or later against the wind of change."
Erdogan warned that NATO intervention in Libya would be dangerous. 

PARTNERSHIP SIGNATURE WITH WORLD GIANT IN GAS
Turkey signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Qatar, the biggest LNG exporter of the world. Under the MoU, Turkey will carry out joint exploration and production works in Qatar.
The MoU said LNG shipment will be made from Qatar to Turkey and in parallel with the agreement, a LGN facility will be established in Turkey.

NEW FACES OF POLITICS RUNNING FOR SEAT AT TURKISH PARLIAMENT
Many individuals from the sports, art and media sectors will be running for seats in the Turkish Parliament at the June 12 elections. Renowned football player Hakan Sukur and singer Cengiz Kurtoglu will run for a seat at the parliament in north-western province of Istanbul.

Tatlises was shot with a long range rifle. Security experts said that the attack on Tatlises may have been conducted by terrorist organization PKK.

TURKEY SMOKES LESS IN 2010
Smoking in Turkey dropped significantly last year after a law was introduced in 2008 that prohibited smoking indoors in all public places. Number of cigarettes consumed in 2010 decreased below 100 billion for the first time in many years, marking a 13.2 percent drop over a year earlier. In 2009, the consumption was 107.5 billion.

TURKISH AIRLINES SET TO LAUNCH THIRD DESTINATION IN CHINA
The Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag carrier air company, is set to begin direct flights to China's Guangzhou, the country's main hub of manufacturing sector. Guangzhou is the third destination for THY's direct flights in China after Beijing and Shanghai.
