FLIGHTS TO NEW YORK CANCELLED
State of emergency was declared in eight states of the United States due to the hurricane which will affect the lives of 65 million people. More than 300,000 people were asked to evacuate their houses in New York. Over 6,000 flights were cancelled as the airports were shut down. Istanbul-New York flights of Turkish Airlines (THY) as well as Delta Airlines were cancelled yesterday too.

NO HOPE
Fenerbahce soccer club's coach Aykut Kocaman and his former teammate Ridvan Dilmen met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday (regarding the match-fixing investigation). When asked about the developments and what Erdogan told him during 1.5-hour meeting, Kocaman said, "no hope". Erdogan previously said, "at this point, I'm not a fan of Fenerbahce. Those who commit a crime should be punished."

FORMER TOP SOLDIER VOUCHES FOR REMARKS IN LEAKED VOICE RECORDING
Former chief of the Turkish military staff, retired Gen. Isik Kosaner, has said he stood by his remarks in a leaked voice recording in which speaks about the military's "deficiencies" in the fight against PKK terrorism, and alleged coup plots against the government. "I do vouch for every single word I said. These are issues which we do not hide from anyone. These are things that I shared my views in meetings with high level state officials," Kosaner said in a written statement released on Saturday.

TURKEY'S FOOTBALL BODY REJECTS FENERBAHCE'S APPEAL TO BE DROPPED TO LOWER LEAGUE
Turkey's football governing body, the Turkish Football Federation, has turned down a request by the Turkish premier league winners Fenerbahce to be dropped to the second division after they were banned from playing at the Champions League due to an ongoing investigation into a match-fixing scandal that involved club heads, managers and players. The federation decided to keep the Istanbul side on the premier division, Spor Toto Super League. Fenerbahce Vice President Ali Koc slammed the decision saying, "they have failed to take a firm stand against the UEFA and they banned us from the Champions League."

YOU CAN'T SAY LET'S TOUR THERE
On the fourth anniversary of his presidency, President Abdullah Gul gave an exclusive interview to Anadolu Agency at Huber Palace in Istanbul. Gul said, "it is forcing to have equal distances to all political views. I am exerting very much effort for this. Friends from my political view showed great understanding in this issue."
"As a president you cannot go everywhere you want. You cannot say 'let me see my friends or let's tour there'. When you go somewhere, a lot of people are mobilized," he said.

AMBUSH ON VILLAGE GUARDS
An ambush was laid by terrorists on village guards who departed from a gendarmery station in the southeastern province of Mardin. One village guard was killed while four others were injured in the attack.

TURKISH GOVERNMENT MOVES TO RETURN IMMOVABLES OF MINORITY FOUNDATIONS 
Turkish government has passed a decree to return all immovable property of the minority foundations in Turkey. Minority foundations will reclaim real property they declared back in 1936. All real property, cemeteries and fountains will be returned to their rightful holders. Immoveables belonging to the third persons will also be paid for.

TURKISH PRESIDENT SAYS MISSES ACTIVE POLITICS 
Turkish President Abdullah Gul has said he had missed being in active politics as he completed his fourth year in the top office. "One misses active politics after being in it for 20 years. It is not doing politics itself but rather the liberty it gives," Gul told the Anadolu Agency in an exclusive interview.

ERDOGAN'S CANKAYA PLANS
Ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party mainly supports the idea to keep President Abdullah Gul in his office for seven years, and finish his term in 2014. Gul's fourth year in term-in-office will end tomorrow. The idea stems from calculations of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who plans to have the seat at Cankaya Presidential Palace in 2014, if his presidency system plans fail.

TURKEY RECORD FROM USLU
Binnaz Uslu of Turkey ranked the first and qualified for finals in 3,000 meters steeplechase in women's category in the 13th World Championships in Athletics in South Korea. Uslu broke Turkey record with 9:24.06.

MINORITY INITIATIVE
Turkish government has taken a step to return immovable properties of the minority foundations. The Turkish state will return real property it had seized as well as paying for the minority foundation immoveables that had been sold to third persons. 

HACKER UNDER ARREST FOR STEALING CELLPHONE NUMBERS
Police in Istanbul have detained a man for stealing as many as 110 thousand cell phone numbers and for selling them online for prices up to $500. The man was identified as Muhammed Fatih Ergun a.k.a. "Spam Abdullah."

President Abdullah Gul told about his four year at Cankaya Presidential Palace and his longing for politics. Gul gave an exclusive interview to Anadolu Agency at Huber Palace. When asked whether he misses active politics, Gul said, "I have spent my 20 years in politics. I both miss and want it. While saying I miss it, I mean I miss the liberty of making politics."

TERRORIST ORGANIZATION RELEASES THREE WORKERS
PKK terrorist organization, which previously kidnapped three workers in a hydroelectrical power plant in the eastern province of Bingol, released them last night. The workers had been kidnapped 18 days ago, and their health condition was reported to be well.

MINORITY FOUNDATIONS TO RECLAIM THEIR IMMOVABLES
Minority foundations in Turkey will be able to reclaim their immovable properties thanks to a government decree which has entered into force on Saturday. All real properties of the minority foundations which were declared in 1936 including cemeteries and fountains will be returned. Immovables which had been sold to third persons will be paid for on their current values.   

MORE THAN TWO-DOZEN KILLED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ON FIRST DAY OF RAMADAN HOLIDAY
Despite all warnings and measures, twenty-six people were killed and 153 others were injured in traffic accidents on the first day of the nine-day Ramadan holiday in Turkey. Officials warn drivers not to speed, and to follow traffic rules.

HISTORICAL GESTURE FOR MINORITIES
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend a fast-breaking dinner today which will be hosted by minorities for the first time in the history of Republic. Prior to the dinner, Erdogan made a historical gesture for minorities. Under a decree, which took effect yesterday, all immovable properties of the minority foundations will be returned.

MAKE A WRITTEN APPLICATION, THEN WE DISCUSS
Football Federation rejected the demand of first division club Fenerbahce to drop to a lower division. The federation stated that Fenerbahce did not make a written application to drop to Bank Asya league, and noted that the fixtures of Super League and Bank Asya League did not change.
