FLIGHTS TO NEW YORK CANCELLED
State of emergency was declared in eight states of the United States due to the hurricane which will affect the lives of 65 million people. More than 300,000 people were asked to evacuate their houses in New York. Over 6,000 flights were cancelled as the airports were shut down. Istanbul-New York flights of Turkish Airlines (THY) as well as Delta Airlines were cancelled yesterday too.

Fenerbahce soccer club's coach Aykut Kocaman and his former teammate Ridvan Dilmen met Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday (regarding the match-fixing investigation). When asked about the developments and what Erdogan told him during 1.5-hour meeting, Kocaman said, "no hope". Erdogan previously said, "at this point, I'm not a fan of Fenerbahce. FORMER TOP SOLDIER VOUCHES FOR REMARKS IN LEAKED VOICE RECORDING
Former chief of the Turkish military staff, retired Gen. Isik Kosaner, has said he stood by his remarks in a leaked voice recording in which speaks about the military's "deficiencies" in the fight against PKK terrorism, and alleged coup plots against the government. "I do vouch for every single word I said. These are issues which we do not hide from anyone. These are things that I shared my views in meetings with high level state officials," Kosaner said in a written statement released on Saturday.
TURKEY'S FOOTBALL BODY REJECTS FENERBAHCE'S APPEAL TO BE DROPPED TO LOWER LEAGUE
Turkey's football governing body, the Turkish Football Federation, has turned down a request by the Turkish premier league winners Fenerbahce to be dropped to the second division after they were banned from playing at the Champions League due to an ongoing investigation into a match-fixing scandal that involved club heads, managers and players. The federation decided to keep the Istanbul side on the premier division, Spor Toto Super League. Fenerbahce Vice President Ali Koc slammed the decision saying, "they have failed to take a firm stand against the UEFA and they banned us from the Champions League."
