WE ARE NOT CELEBRATING, WE ARE REVOLTING
Women raised their voices to protest women's murders all around Turkey on March 8 International Women's Day. Women gathered in front of Kadikoy Court House in Istanbul and chanted slogans saying, "we are not celebrating March 8, we are revolting." The group protested the murders carrying photographs of women killed by their husbands.

HE WARNED HIS FAMILY
Deniz Baykal, former chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), warned his family before harassment allegations regarding Iklim Bayraktar, Odatv's journalist who was detained within the scope of Ergenekon investigation and released by the prosecutor's office, were reflected to the media. 
Baykal defined the claims as "a lie, slander and a dirty intrigue." He had informed his spouse Olcay Baykal, his daughter Asli Baykal and CHP lawmaker Yilmaz Ates about the claims since the very first day.
Baykal told his family and his close friends that some circles were trying to set him up, and warned everybody to be careful.

DEFENSE RIGHT IS VIOLATED
Statement of Zekeriya Oz, prosecutor of Ergenekon case, that some evidence regarding arrest of Nedim Sener and Ahmet Sik was not disclosed because of the privacy decision in the file led to discussions.
Riza Turmen said, "the lawyer could not examine the file during the interrogation. This means violation of 'right to oppose the arrest' in European Convention on Human Rights.
Prof. Hakan Hakeri said, "you should see all the evidences that are basis to the accusation. You can not make a defense against the evidences which you do not see."

LET JURISDICTION ALONE TO DO ITS JOB
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said they wanted the process regarding Ergenekon case to be concluded soon and gave the messages; "recent arrests are at the disposal of jurisdiction. Interference of the government is out of question. Which journalist was arrested as he criticized us? Let them say is there any newspaper headline which we interfered in the past 8 years."

TURKEY DENIES FRANCE ACCESS TO SATELLITE TENDER
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a fierce opponent of Turkey's EU membership, tasted a bitter lesson when Turkey shut out France from competing in a Turkish satellite tender, a move that forced the French leader to cut short his visit to Ankara two weeks ago. Sarkozy's visit, as the chairman of the G20, was originally planned to last two days. Japanese firm Mitsubishi won the tender to manufacture two communications satellite for Turkey in a 571 million USD project.

FREEZING COLD, SNOW BLIZZARD HIT PARTS OF TURKEY
Heavy snow fall has brought daily life almost to a standstill in parts of Turkey, especially in Ankara, where snow blizzard plunged the capital into a complete siege. In many provinces, schools were put on recess as nearly 2,500 roads at the country side has closed to traffic. Powerful winds have pounded Istanbul, ripping off roofs of several buildings and paralyzing maritime transport.

CHAIN OF RESIGNATIONS
Bureaucrats who want to run their candidacies for parliament in June 12 general elections are resigning one after the other. Oguz Kaan Koksal, the director general of Security Department, and former Istanbul governor Muammer Guler resigned from their positions to run for parliament from the Justice & Development (AK) Party.

"I PREVENTED CONSPIRACY"
Deniz Baykal, the former chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), responded to the harassment allegations of journalist Iklim Kaleli. Baykal said, "she wanted to set me up and push me into a difficult position. I prevented this conspiracy."

GAS PRICES RAISED FOR SEVEN TIMES SINCE JANUARY 1
Unleaded gas prices were up 8 kurus as of Tuesday. Thus, one liter of 95-octane unleaded gas rose to 4.16 Turkish liras-TL (2.616 USD) in Ankara and Istanbul and to 4.15 TL (2.610 USD) in Izmir. A 55-liter gas tank which used to be filed at 212.5 TL (133.6 USD) in Istanbul at the beginning of 2011 can now be filled at 228.5 TL (143.7 USD).

"ADVANCED DEMOCRACY" LESSON
European Parliament listed the steps which the Justice & Development (AK) Party government should fulfill. Draft resolution on Turkey which will be voted today listed the steps which should be taken in democratization process. "We feel concern over the deterioration in freedom of press, censorship activities and increasing self-censor. Turkish government was called to be loyal to principles of freedom of press" it said.
The draft also expressed concern over Turkish government's putting artificial impediments in revealing murderers of Dink.

PRIME MINISTER SENTENCES
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said none of the journalists who were currently kept at prisons were there because of their journalism and posed the accusations "terrorist organization membership and attempting to change constitutional order by force" to the journalists who were in prison.
Reacting against international media, Erdogan said, "media does not ask for coup in those countries."

ERDOGAN RESPONDS TO ACCUSATIONS OVER FREEDOM OF PRESS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan severely rejected Tuesday allegations that the government had launched a campaign against journalists criticizing the ruling AK Party, manipulating courts to put them behind bars. "Arrests of journalists is a decision made by the courts. Show me a single journalist who is under detention because of criticizing the government. There are 27 journalists under arrest and the reasons for their arrest are terrorism, sexual abuse and looting," he said.

SENIOR BUREAUCRATS RESIGN TO RUN IN ELECTIONS
Resignations of senior state officials Tuesday came hours apart to clear the way to run in the upcoming general elections in June to win a seat at the parliament. Police Department chief Oguz Kagan Koksal, head of the Public Security Agency and former Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler, Ankara Chief Prosecutor Mehmet Yucesoy was among those who quit. State officials are required by the elections law to leave their offices in order to run in the elections. They would resume their posts if they fail to secure MP title.

WHICH JOURNALISM?
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan reacted against those who linked Ergenekon wave to government. "Some are in an effort to make us pay the price," he said. Disclosing reason of the arrest of the 27 journalists, Erdogan said, "attempting to change the constitutional order by force, membership to armed organization and sexual abuse."

GIANT INVESTMENT FROM SABANCI, JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO 2,000 PEOPLE
Chairwoman of Sabanci Holding Guler Sabanci said they were planning 2 billion USD investment and 2,000 new job opportunities in 2011. She said 60 percent of this employment would be in retail and financial services.

NONE OF JOURNALISTS ARRESTED FOR THEIR JOURNALISM
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly reacted to those who have turned Ergenekon case arrests into an anti-government campaign. Erdogan said the arrests were made under a decision of the judicial organs, and said, "there are 27 journalists who are at prisons right now. None of them are at prison for their journalism."

WINDS OF LIES
They defined Ahmet Sik as "a journalist revealing military intervention memoirs. However, Alper Gormus said he himself wrote the story. Oda TV wrote that "the sibling of the undersecretary of National Intelligence Organization (MIT) was a member of a sect." The MIT denied the story saying that the undersecretary did not have a sibling as named in the story. 
Nedim Sener said he did not know journalist Soner Yalcin in person. However, he was so close to Yalcin. Soner Yalcin said "the files regarded as crime were loaded on their computers through virus e-mail." However, it was revealed that he himself loaded those files.

INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT HITS RECORD HIGH
Industrial output increased 18.9 percent in January, 2011 over the same period last year to hit another record high. The index has been increasing in 14 months in a row now. The output increased 11.9 percent in mining sector and it was up 20.5 percent in manufacturing sector.

ANOTHER HIKE IN GAS PRICES
Gas prices saw another hike on Tuesday at 8-10 kurus. 95 octane gas was to be sold at 4.16 Turkish liras and 97 octane at prices between 4.17 TL and 4.30 TL.

THY TO BUY 13 AIRBUS
The Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag carrier air company, has put a purchase order for 13 Airbus airliners. THY will add to its fleet 10 Airbus A320 and three A330-200f. The planes will cost 1.6 billion USD.

X
