UAE launches Youth National Service Council

DUBAI, 14th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Youth Council and the National Service and Reserve Authority have launched a Youth National Service Council, as part of the national efforts to build the capacity of youth and enable them to actively participate in realising the objectives for a comprehensive national development, community development and prosperity.
The new body was formed as per the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to deliver the national agenda for youth, which was launched by H.H. in 2016 in a bid to empower the youth in all fields, so that they can contribute towards the UAE Vision 2021.
Expressing his pride in this milestone, Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Service and Reserve Authority, said the launch of the council underscored the interest of the leadership in empowering the youth, treating them as the engine and main target of development, consistent with the approach of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, which called for promoting communication between the Armed Forces and the community.
''The new council will act as a point of contact between the authority and the youth,'' he said.
Shamma bint Sohail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Chairperson of the Emirates Youth Council, affirmed that the government placed youth at the top of its developmental priorities and was determined to invest in programmes that seek to build capacities and skills of youth, so that they can become major contributors in shaping the bright future of the nation and accomplish more.
''The new body is an extension of many youth councils launched across the country to provide a fitting platform through which a direct channel can be opened with young minds to assess their requirements and dreams and make them a reality. Through this platform, the youth can float creative ideas that aim to consolidate the UAE's leading position globally,'' she added.
The council is made up of an elite group of young, qualified Emirati professionals who have completed national service. http://wam.ae/en/details/1395302602625
