UN aid plane lands at eastern province

ERZURUM (A.A) - October 30, 2011 - A United Nations (UN) aid plane landed at the airport of eastern province of Erzurum on Sunday. "The plane is carrying 500 tents," Metin Corabatir, the spokesperson of the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Turkey, told AA correspondent. Corabatir said tents were loaded on trucks and trucks were en route to the quake-hit Van province. The spokesperson said 2,000 winter tents that could shelter 5,000 people, 10,000 beds and 40,000 blankets would also be dispatched to Van. Moreover, an aid plane from Pakistan and two military cargo planes from Romania landed at Erzurum Airport, and almost 1,500 tents were sent to the quake zone. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Van last Sunday, killing at least 582 and injuring 4,152 others.
