UN Resident Coordinator pays tribute to HRH Premier

Manama, Oct. 26 (BNA): The UN Resident Coordinator to Bahrain Amin Al Sharkawi praised in comments to the press the message of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on the occasion of the United Nations Day, which reflected the Kingdom's keenness to support the development of the UN mechanisms in facing current challenges to the international organisation and the world. "We fully agree with what His Royal Highness has said about the changes and thorny issues that the whole world is going through, which require everyone to make more efforts and continue partnerships to find the right solutions and the safest and best ways to spare humanity, peoples and the world unspeakable consequences, especially with regard to the disruption of the development process in many countries that are experiencing conflicts in their various forms and types, which in one way or another is behind in terms of development. " He said that the United Nations, celebrating its 24th of October, continues to work on developing its various structures, mechanisms and tools in order to achieve the aspirations of Member States to achieve peace and to strive for the advancement of all societies and mankind. He pointed out that Mr. Antonio Gutierrez, Secretary General of the United Nations, is leading a comprehensive structural reform on various aspects to deal with the various issues and obstacles that support the organization's reach to its best goals, including supporting all countries in implementing the 2030 development agenda, and supporting climate change, migration and enhancing security and peace. "The Kingdom of Bahrain has provided many examples and models of its support and cooperation with the United Nations from many different perspectives and on different levels. After a few years of Bahrain’s independence, the United Nations offices and programs have been embraced." And since the 1970s, Bahrain has signed a basic presence document with the United Nations organizations and many UN programs have started their work based on the actual presence, and provided Bahrain the required technical expertise to follow the path of wide development, followed by the signing of several agreements, the most recent of which - at the national level – was the Strategic Partnership Framework Agreement between the Kingdom of Bahrain and United Nations Organizations for the years 2018-2022, with a view to collaborating in achieving various development dimensions of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and its 17 objectives, Mr, Sharqawi confirmed. “Bahrain has early taken necessary institutional arrangements to coordinate the implementation of the objectives and targets listed therein. About 78% of these goals have been integrated into the government's 2015-2018 work program, El Sharkawi pointed out. The United Nations is keen to support Bahrain in its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and how they will be reviewed in future reports," he said. He went on to stress that the United Nations supports the Kingdom of Bahrain in achieving maximum community, environmental and economic development through providing it with necessary technical expertise. “The Kingdom of Bahrain, a predominantly youthful country, had early recognized the importance of SDGs and, they had been integrated in most of its programs, projects and initiatives aimed at young people. This is based on the importance of security and peace for the development process as a fundamental requirement, and based on the development of the 2030 Agenda, which underscores the active role youth must play in achieving SDGs , he emphasized. Mr. Sharkawi concluded his comment by stressing that “The commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to working hard and influential, and partnership with the United Nations, its organizations, offices and programs, is a positive reflection of its commitment to the United Nations Charter, the noble humanitarian principles on which this UN is based as well as the agreements and conventions for development, security and international peace ".
