UNESCO Experts To Inspect Golestan Palace

Tehran, Aug 22, IRNA – Experts of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization will visit Iran late August to inspect Golestan Palace due to be registered on the world heritage list.
Director of Golestan Museum Palace Masoud Sharifipour said that the palace is currently undergoing repair in a bid to host Non-Aligned Movement guests next week.
File of the palace was sent to UNESCO in March 2012 and was confirmed in the summit of World Heritage Committee of the organization held in Saint Petersburg last July as one of the cases to be discussed in next year’s session, he said.
Sharifipour noted that UNESCO team will inspect the monument to clarify maybe obstacles for its registration and how to remove them.
Golestān Palace is the former royal Qajar complex in Iran's capital city.
Golestan Palace Complex consists of 17 palaces, museums, and Halls. Almost all of the complex was built during 200 years of Qajar kings. These palaces were used for many different occasions such as coronation and other important celebrations./end
