Universities Urged to Conduct Studies on Al-Quran

NILAI (Negeri Sembilan), Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Institutions of higher learning, particularly Quran and Sunnah Study faculties, are urged to carry out studies that delve into the secrets of the Al-Quran, providing a source of reference to address the challenges faced by Muslims of today. Chairman of Malaysian Institute of Wasatiyyah Abdullah Md Zin said the move could also provide solutions to today’s global problems that can be described as losing direction in life, affecting peace and harmony in life. "As such, universities, especially Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) through its Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies can play a pivotal role in providing solutions or guidance to the world now,” he told reporters here Tuesday. Abdullah, who is also the Religious Advisor to the Prime Minister, said among the challenges faced in applying the ‘wasatiyyah’ or moderation concept was balancing internal and external development. About 500 participants joined the two-day seminar which started today and organised by USIM and the Malaysian Institute of Wasatiyyah. --BERNAMA
