US donates rabies vaccines to Thailand

BANGKOK, May 31 (TNA) – The US government donated rabies vaccines to Thailand, hoping the kingdom to be free from rabies in the next two years as targeted. The US Ambassador to Thailand, Glyn T Davies on Wednesday handed over 50,000 doses of rabies vaccines to Thailand’s livestock department. The ambassador said the US is confident in Thailand’s capability to eradicate rabies in 2020. Rabies vaccine, provided to Thailand is another dimension of cooperation in public health and disease control. The mission is collaborative effort between the US and Thai agencies, which has been done for 60 years. The US supported Thai department of livestock development in adoption of ‘One Health’ approach to develop comprehensive healthcare for people and animals as well as environment management, in which multiple sectors work together to achieve better public health outcomes. The US intends to work with Thailand in other public health issues. Meanwhile, Sorawit Thaneeto, director –general of the department thanked the US government, saying the US’s support will help Thailand achieve its target to eradicate rabies in the next two years.
