US Senate’s resolution to celebrate 180th anniversary of Thai-US ties acknowledged

BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet has acknowledged the US Senate’s recent resolution to celebrate the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Thailand and the 85th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. Deputy Government spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat told journalists today (May 24) that the Thai Cabinet acknowledged the US Senate’s resolution at its latest weekly meeting on May 21. Sunisa said the Thai Embassy to the United States has informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the US Senate, on April 9, 2013, unanimously reached the S.RES.77, which is “a Resolution Expressing the Sense of Congress relating to the commemoration of the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Thailand.” Apart from commemorating the diplomatic relations, the US Senate, through the resolution, also expressed its congratulations for Thailand’s adherence to democratic values, celebrations for the 85th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the King and good wishes for the development of Thailand and the long-standing relations between both countries. The US Senate also mentioned in the resolution that Thailand has played important roles in the development and unity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN for the sake of security and prosperity of the region.
