US Supports Implementation of Doha Document for Peace in Darfur
Khartoum, February 20 (QNA) - The U.S. Senior Advisor on Darfur Ambassador Dane Smith said the U.S. administration supports Darfur's regional authority and the Sudanese government in the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
Smith said after his meeting with Assistant chief of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) Yassine Youssef Idriss that Washington is ready to help in the region's transition from relief and assistance to development and early recovery through the implementation of development projects that will encourage the displaced people and refugees to return voluntarily to their home villages in addition to supporting the joint mission of the United Nations and African Union (UNAMID) so as to fully play its role .
The U.S. envoy praised the progress in the implementation of the Doha Darfur Peace Document especially regarding the decision of the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) to establish DRA and appoint its leaders in addition to launching its work and cooperating and coordinating with the state and federal governments, which resulted in a positive progress in this regard.
Smith said that the U.S administration will support the two sides so as to implement the agreement. (QNA)
