Use of tiffin carriers campaigned in Thai national parks
BANGKOK, November 27 (TNA) - The Thai public and private sectors have joined forces in launching a campaign on promoting the use of tiffin carriers, instead of plastic bags and styrofoam containers, at the country's national parks as part of the Thai government's target on reducing the use of the environmentally-unfriendly materials in the domestic tourism sector by 50 per cent by 2020.
As a solution to the problem of massive plastic and styrofoam garbage of over 3 trillion tons annually at Thai national parks across the country, the situation of which has affected the wildlife and the ecological system, the Thai government, through the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has jointly launched the campaign with Bangkok-based Srithai Superware Company Limited to produce hundreds of tiffin carriers, made from the organic Melamine material, to serve international visitors to Thai national parks, starting soon with 10 marine national parks out of a total of 154 national parks nationwide.
Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat told journalists on Tuesday that the joint public-private campaign is aimed to create awareness on social and environmental responsibility among Thai and foreign tourists. (TNA)
