Vakili’s impression of West’s new atmosphere goes on show

TEHRAN,April22(MNA) -- The latest paintings by artist Bita Vakili, reflecting the artist’s impression of the new atmosphere of the West, went on display Friday in an exhibition named “Shahrivar” at the Mah-e Mehr Gallery. “Shahrivar”, which means the third Iranian month of summer (August 22-September 21) reflects the artist’s impressions of the new atmosphere she experienced during her recent trip to New York, as was reported in a press release on Saturday. She was deeply influenced by the new buildings and skyscrapers there, so she decided to put her impressions of the West alongside the soft oriental patterns in her paintings. Making use of nuts and bolts, nails and a punch covered with different shades of colors beside the oriental style of paintings, she has tried to showcase the difference between the two locations. Vakili believes the month of Shahrivar, which is the boundary between summer and autumn, connects the two seasons with their two different natures, the cold atmosphere of the West with the warmth of the East. Vakili, whose painting went for $45,000 at Christie’s sales of modern and contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish art in Dubai on April 18, expressed her delight over the great successes of Iranian women at world auctions. This is the Vakili’s sixth solo exhibit, in which 10 large tableaus are on display for two weeks. She has previously shown her works in several countries including France, China, Canada, Armenia and Jordan. The exhibit will be running for three weeks at the gallery located on Nilufar Alley, off Africa Ave.
