Vietnam's VP praises Thailand for protecting human trafficking victims

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) - Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, who is paying an official visit to Thailand from June 20-24 as the guest of the Thai government, has praised the Thai administration for protecting children and women who are victims of human trafficking, promising that Vietnam will continue supporting international efforts to suppress the illicit business. Madam Doan expressed her appreciation to the Thai government when visiting the Kredtrakarn Protection and Occupational Development Centre in Bangkok on Thursday during which she was received by Thai Social Development and Human Security Minister Santi Prompat and relevant officials, who brought her to see vocational training for children and women who were victims of human trafficking and receive care at the centre. The Kredtrakarn Protection and Occupational Development Centre has now accommodated 122 human trafficking victims from several member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The visiting Vietnamese Vice President thanked the Thai government for taking care of the Vietnamese victims and praised the Kredtrakarn Protection and Occupational Development Centre for its systematic operations, calling for ASEAN member countries to collectively solve the problem, which is believed to escalate after the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.
