Water discharge cut from Nakhon Nayok dam after flash flood

NAKHON NAYOK, Aug 14 (TNA) – The Department of the Royal Irrigation cut water discharge from the Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam to relieve impacts on downstream areas in Nakhon Nayok. The decision was made after heavy rainfall on Khao Kheow mountain triggered flash flood at Nang Rong waterfall yesterday. In the latest situation, reported this morning, the water level at Nang Rong and Wang Takrai waterfalls in Nakhon Nayok has dropped after the tourists sites were hit by flash flood yesterday. A swimming ban remains in place as the water is still turbid. Staffs have cleaned resorts and traders have opened their stalls as usual. The department’s director-general, Thongplew Kongjun said the forest run-off is flowing into the Nakhon Nayok River. The reduction of the water discharge will relieve impacts on the downstream areas. The department also diverts the water into the irrigation system before it reaches the municipality area. The remaining water is drained into the Bang Pakong River in Prachin Buri. He said the situation has returned to normal and it has no impacts on residential areas and farmlands. (TNA)
