WHO praises Thailand for kidney treatment

BANGKOK, Feb 2 (TNA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) praised Thailand for good healthcare system in providing access to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) for poor kidney patients. WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Thursday observed a local community in Bangkok’s Soi Phra Jen and visited houses of kidney patients, who are receiving CADP from the health care center of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) under the universal coverage healthcare scheme. Medical teams instructed patients how to take the dialysis at home. Ghebreyesus said Thailand’ healthcare system for patients with end-stage kidney disease is successful with good care for them, given by a network of public health staff, so the patients have good quality of life. Thailand’s care for kidney patients and healthcare insurance scheme will be the model to be applied in other countries, he added. (TNA)
