WHO re-approves AGU as collaborating regional centre

Manama, Mar. 17 (BNA): The College of Medicine and Medical Science in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has been recently reapproved as a Collaborating Centre with the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the educational development of health professionals.
WHO Regional Director Dr. Ahmed Al Munthery, who is based in Cairo, took the re-approval decision.
Dean of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences and Head of AGU’s Collaborating Centre with WHO for the Development of Health Professionals Prof. Dr. Abdelhalim Deifalla affirmed the college’s support to innovation in the field of educating health professionals, especially medical education innovation, which is based on evidence and proof.
Dr. Deifalla explained that the centre was established in 2006 and has been contributing since then to the education and training of health professionals, offering the latest technologies in the field.
As a collaborating centre with WHO, the centre is obliged to perform several tasks on the regional level, including working closely with WHO in supporting the implementation of the organisation’s strategy on human resources for health and the strategic framework for health workforce development.
The centre will also promote and build faculty capacity at the regional level in health professionals education, that is in addition to assisting WHO in conducting studies to explore ways to improve the contribution of the organisation’s collaborating centres to health professionals education.
